About BSM

BEREAN  School of Ministry  is a   church-based  ministerial training school for church planters based in Destiny City Church (a.k.a. First BSMLogo2018Assembly Roxas Missions, Inc.)  situated in Roxas City, Capiz, Philippines. Both the church and the school are headed by Rev. Rey and Zeny Calusay.
The distinctiveness of the training in BSM is captured in this tagline: “We train those who will plant the church that they will pastor, and pastor the church that they will plant.”
The name BEREAN  is an acronym of: Because Eventually Radical Equipping Affects Nations

Reason for Being
It is because of our commitment to church planting and missions that Berean School of Ministry was started in 1986. We motivate, train and mobilize leaders. We are training the church for the great commission. We are majoring in church planting, because that’s what Jesus is doing ever since, that’s what the Holy Spirit empowerment is for, and that’s the reason the church is still on earth! We know how to do it and we have results.  We will continue to exist as long as the Lord of the Harvest calls for more laborers.

Description
1. A Church-Based School
Our school is rooted in the life of the local church, recognizing it as the most effective environment for ministry training. Rather than functioning as a separate seminary, we operate as an integral part of the church community. Students are immersed in real church life, ministry, and culture—essential elements of their formation. We also remain attentive to God’s movement in the Church, continually aligning our training with His Spirit.
2. A Short-Term School
Our program is designed to deliver focused and effective learning in a short period of time. Through creative methods, clear objectives, and active participation, students gain meaningful and lasting insights. This approach helps preserve and strengthen their passion, zeal, and vision for ministry and missions.
3. A Training School
We are committed to training that goes beyond theory. Students not only learn but actively apply what they are taught in real ministry settings.
Our teachers play a vital role as mentors, motivators, and role models. They intentionally impart values, passion, and convictions through both teaching and personal example—shaping each student’s character and ministry mindset.
4. A Trainers’ School
We equip students to become trainers themselves. With a focus on multiplication, our program prepares them to teach and disciple others, especially within their own communities. Lessons are practical, transferable, and supported by well-structured materials designed for real church application.
5. A Pioneering School
We train pioneers who are called to plant and pastor churches. Students are equipped to break new ground and cross cultural, social, economic, and geographical barriers. Our church planting training is grounded in real-life experience and proven ministry practices.
6. A Missions-Oriented School
Missions is at the heart of our training. We equip students with the vision and foundation needed for missionary work and actively support their sending into the field.
We also prepare students for ministry in the marketplace, helping them recognize their workplace as a mission field where they can live out their faith and influence others for Christ.

Philosophy of Training
At the Berean School of Ministry (BSM), we are committed to developing leaders who are biblically grounded, spiritually mature, and ministry ready. Our approach to training is built upon five foundational pillars known as the Five M’s of Ministry Training.

  1. Morals
We believe that effective ministry begins with Christlike character. Therefore, we emphasize spiritual maturity, integrity, godly values, and personal holiness as essential foundations for ministry.
  2. Message
We believe that ministers must be firmly rooted in the Word of God. Students are equipped with sound biblical and theological understanding while learning to depend on the Holy Spirit as they study and apply Scripture.
  3. Methods
We believe ministry is both learned and practiced. Through practical training in evangelism, discipleship, church planting, missions, leadership, and pastoral ministry, students gain skills for effective Kingdom service.
  4. Motivation
We believe that lasting ministry flows from a vibrant relationship with God. Students are encouraged to cultivate a heart for God’s purposes and a sensitivity to the leading and empowering of the Holy Spirit.
  5. Mission
We believe every believer has a God-given role in advancing Christ’s mission. Our goal is to help students discover their calling, develop their gifts, and effectively serve the Church and the world.

Our Teachers
Since 1986, BSM has been served by a dedicated team of instructors who teach out of a passion for building the Church of Jesus Christ. Our faculty LED BY THE LEAD Pastors of Destiny City Church Rev. Rey and Zeny Calusay consists of experienced pastors, ministry leaders, and partner educators who generously invest their knowledge, ministry experience, and expertise in the next generation of Christian leaders.

Our Students
BSM students are more than learners—they are emerging servant-leaders preparing for a lifetime of ministry. We encourage every student to approach training with commitment, humility, and a teachable spirit.
Through academic study, ministry experience, spiritual formation, and character development, students are challenged to grow in both competence and Christlikeness.
At BSM, we seek to cultivate the mindset of a Servant-Student—one who is eager to learn, willing to serve, and committed to fulfilling God’s call.
Our Motto
“We are not training performers; we are training servants. We serve those who serve Him.”
